Japanese Lucky Star BDs to have English Dubs, Subs

A common complaint I hear among my circle of anime friends is the lack of good anime blu-ray, especially shows owned/licensed by Bandai. I also find myself agreeing with their sentiments, as I'd prefer to own shows like Haruhi, Gundam 00 and Code Geass in the high-definition format as opposed to the lower fidelity DVDs. This is made even more annoying since the US and Japan are in the same BD region, so if I were desperate for some high resolution school girls or robots I could spend $100+ and get that goodness in my paws.

Well, a magazine scan has confirmed that the upcoming Lucky Star Complete BD set will include the solid English Dub and some additional research revealed that English subtitles will be on the disks as well. This means that if you have ¥29,526 (approx. $355) you can watch a hot-blooded shopkeep voiced by Tomokazu Seki try and convince a high school girl to buy more merch on your PS3 or other BD device.

If Bandai were to releases this stateside, I would pick it up if it were under $60. While I was quite fond of Lucky Star, it's hard to convince me to pay over $100 for any sort of media. In a market place were your competitor is releasing entire HD releases in the sub-$50 range (i.e. Funimation), it's hard to convince an audience to pay exorbitant prices. Oh wait...

Now that I think about it, that's probably why Bandai doesn't release they're higher-profile titles over here. With the debacle that was Bandai Visual, the Japanese method of releasing media has proven to not work in the US. When you add a probable fear of Japanese fans importing cheaper US releases in favor of expensive local releases, you get an equation that screws us over.

Me? I'm not buying Gundam 00 or Code Geass until the BDs are sold over here AND they are comparable to their Japanese counterparts. None of this dub-only business like the Kurokami wreck. Talk about missing the point.
