JAST talks about difficulties with Starry Sky

That ish be expensive, yo

Sometimes, the reality of business ruins the fun for everyone. This time around, that adage refers to the state of Starry Sky, a popular visual novel targeted to female audiences.

Two years ago at Anime Expo, JAST expressed interest in licensing and releasing Starry Sky stateside to feed that hungry audience looking for Otome games. According to an interview with Peter Payne posted on Technology Tell, the cost of licensing is quite high due to the all-star cast in the Otome game. With big names such as Daisuki Ono, Akira Ishida and Tomokazu Sugita, the original studios are asking for hefty payouts. This puts it out of the range for release in the West, as well as any other Otome game that has voices from popular actors.

Thankfully for the ladies, Payne did say that Yaoi games had a better chance of making it over here due to companies being more willing to negotiate their fees. Be sure to check out the rest of the interview, as it gives a peek into why we get certain titles and not others.
