Keanu might play Kaneda in live action Akira

Lately I've been hearing a lot of complaints about the upcoming live-action Akira, and with good cause. In addition to making major changes to locales, the American film companies are insisting on white-washing the entire movie with all caucasian characters. In Warner Bros. latest crazy decision, they're now trying to push for Keanu Reeves to play Kaneda.

I think it's funny how now Warner isn't even trying to pay attention to the ages of characters, since Reeves is in his mid-40s and the kids in Akira are supposed to be teenagers. I've never really had the animosity for Reeves that a lot of people do, but either way, I feel pretty ambivalent about this potential casting choice. Of course, none of this is set in stone, and the producers would have to convince Keanu to do this.

At least one upside is that Reeves is at least partially Asian, as he has some Chinese ancestry. Hey, I know it's not Japanese, but when everyone else is whiter than Wonder Bread, any Asian heritage is a plus. What do you think about this potential casting? Like it? Hate it? Just want to do away with a live-action Akira altogether?
