Kiki actress takes broom flight to promote upcoming film

Suspended 15 meters above the ground

They're really serious about promoting the upcoming Kiki's Delivery Service live-action film. So serious, that the studio had its star actress Fuka Koshiba suspended 15 meters in air from a crane while dressed in costume to wow crowds during a promotional event held at Hanazono Shrine in Tokyo last week. From the looks of it, the actress seemed to be in good spirits for the cameras, but the whole stunt looks absolutely terrifying to me, and someone at the studio must have felt the same. Koshiba was reportedly insured for roughly a million dollars should something go terribly wrong.

If you've been keeping up with our coverage, you may have already caught the trailer for the film. Unfortunately the reception among fans of Ghibli's animated film has been poor. Attempting to capture the magic of Miyazki's original would be difficult enough, but to attempt it with live actors seems almost heretical. However, seeing as the film is being marketed to young kids, it's important to remain objective. After all, they might love every minute of it. Kiki's Delivery Service is slated for Japanese theaters March 1st.
