Korea and men's rights top Japanese wikipedia edit wars

AKB48 dominates Japan's pop culture debates

Where are the Internet's biggest battles waged? On the field of Wikipedia, naturally. Some pages are a brutal wasteland of endless edits back and forth by any number of polarized sides. In English, George W Bush and List of WWE personnel are some of the most controversial topics.

In Japan, Korea is definitely at the top of the list.

The Economist put out a chart detailing the top five most controversial Wikipedia pages by languages, and Japan's top five are as follows:

  1. Koreans in Japan
  2. Korea origin
  3. Men's rights
  4. Internet right-wing
  5. AKB48

As you can guess, the issue of Koreans living in Japan and Japan's relations with South Korea have been a sore spot for a number of years. To say that it tops the listing of Wiki entries comes as no surprise. The Internet right-wing and men's right movements are both interesting subjects, but I can't speak to the particulars of those pages.

AKB48, meanwhile, is likely a battle of different idols' fans battling back and forth over just how their princess is described. I suppose with such a wide cast of characters, you could consider AKB48 like the WWE, no?

What sort of arguments do you always find yourself drawn into, no matter how many times you've had it?
