Daicon Panda Sculpting 101

Are you interested in learning how to make daikon radish art?  If you answered "yes," then you'll be happy to know that Daikon Radish Artist Kimimarokku's releasing a book that teaches people the basics of creating daicon radish sculptures for only ¥ 900 (around US $8.42), which is a good deal. Aside from being a guide book. people can look forward to seeing ten Kimimarokku pieces, along with 32 works from other artists (such as the Marukome miso company's sculpt of Marukome-kun). As a huge veggie lover, it's cool to see someone who specializes in making art out of vegetables show people the ropes, since it'll encourage more people to hop on the activity.

In regards to the artist's work, Kimimarokku has created a series of animal art pieces that she made from grated daikon radishes. Her works include a polar bear lounging in a pot of food, a panda, and a family of capybaras that are relaxing in a bowl. On top of that, she sculpted a sheep that's herding next to some mushrooms, which happens to be one of my favorite foods.

Most importantly, Kimimarokku's book is called Daikon Oroshi Art, and it hits Japan later in October. In the meantime, you can take a look at some of the daikon radish pieces in the gallery below.
