LeSean Thomas' Cannon Busters project looks amazing

More adventure shows is always a good thing

While Western animation doesn't fall under Japanator's usual coverage, LeSean Thomas' (Boondocks, Black Dynamite: The Animated Series) recent Kickstarter project, Cannon Busters, has a few people who been in the anime industry, along with having some influences from Glorious Nippon's cartoons; therefore, making it a topic that we could cover around these parts. Lastly, I'd like to apologize for being really late to the party.

Anyway, Thomas' Cannon Busters project aims to bring back the adventure genre that's been missing in most Western animated TV shows. On top of that, the show's geared towards teens and older viewers, which is another rare aspect when it comes to cartoons with a more serious tone. Besides being an animated adaptation of Thomas' comic book, the show contains aspects that are influenced from Escaflowne, along with classic RPGs, and hip-hop. Honestly, I was sold when he mentioned Escaflowne, since I enjoyed the series' great take on a fantasy setting with giant robots.

In regards to the project's team, LeSean Thomas has recruited Joe Madureira (Battle Chasers, the Darksiders series), Thomas Romain (Basquash!, Space Dandy), Bahi JD (Ping Pong, Kids on the Slope), and Tim Yoon (Batman: Under the Red Hood, The Legend of Korra Books 1 & 2), which shows that Cannon Busters' staff has been in involved in various types of mediums.

As a person's who's a fan of all forms of animation, I'm definitely interested in Thomas' new project. Also, having the main character Sam as a friendship droid is a neat idea, since it adds a nice layer to the show's story about her quest to find the prince that she serves. With an enthusiastic repair robot and a wanted criminal with a car that changes into a ridiculously awesome mecha bull joining the main cast, Cannon Busters looks like it'll be a blast.

At the moment, Thomas and his crew are shooting for a 8 to 10-minute pilot episode; however, they plan to extend the animation's length to 24 minutes as one of the stretch goals. On that note, I wish the group the best of luck in turning their project into a reality.
