Licensing GET: Sentai grabs The Garden of Words

The time to rejoice has come, NA Shinkai fans.

After all of these Sentai license attacks that have been going on lately, they are now ready for their ultimate strike. This time around, Sentai is going to plant The Garden of Words in North American shores. Since it's a great treat to see Makoto Shinkai's films in the highest quality possible, Sentai will release the film on Blu-ray. In other words, you will get to see those lush 2D animated feet in glorious 1080p.

Depending how things turn out in the long run, let's hope that a certain upcoming convention decides to screen the film when August rolls in. While I might not be able to go, I'm going to pray hard for the attendees that wish to see the movie there.

If you are interested in reading up on the rest of Sentai's plans for The Garden of Words, you can take a look at the press release in the section below.

HOUSTON, April 24, 2013 — A chance encounter becomes so much more in Sentai Filmworks’ newest acquisition: The Garden of Words.  From acclaimed filmmaker Makoto Shinkai (Children Who Chase Lost Voices, The Place Promised in Our Early Days), comes a new work of life, love and the spaces between.  The Garden of Words is directed by Makoto Shinkai and features character designs by Kenichi Tsuchiya with music by KASHIWA Daisuke.

When Takao, a young high school student who dreams of becoming a shoe designer, decides to skip school one day in favor of sketching in a rainy garden, he has no idea how much his life will change when he encounters Yukino.  Older, but perhaps not as much wiser, she seems adrift in the world.  Despite the difference in their ages, they strike up an unusual relationship that unexpectedly continues and evolves, without planning, with random meetings that always occur in the same garden on each rainy day.  But the rainy season is coming to a close, and there are so many things still left unsaid and undone between them.  Will there be time left for Takao to put his feelings into actions and words?  Between the raindrops, between the calms in the storm, what will blossom in THE GARDEN OF WORDS?

The Garden of Words will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release on bilingual BD & DVD to follow later this year.
