Love Live School Idol Festival mobile game now in English

Rhythm gaming its way into your wallet

Besides the TV anime, live concerts, CDs and home video sales, the Love Live franchise has one significant arm that people out west don't see much of: the mobile game. This morning, the Live Live freemium mobile game, School Idol Festival, has gone live on the iOS App Store and Google Play for us out west and who speaks English.

This is a lot more than I expect for a free-to-play idol money sink, and the gameplay is solid especially if you enjoy the songs from Love Live. The game's localization mirrors the Japanese version closely, down to the price of gems you can pay for to boost your game. For the unaware, Love Live School Idol Festival employs a standard card-draw/fusion system where you recruit for your deck of nine-member team, but the focal gameplay is a rhythm game where you tap on nine spots for single, double and hold notes. If you've mastered games like Jubeat, this might be a walk in the park for you, once you get used to the piano/keyboard layout. The value comes in that you are usually paying for event scoring bonuses and card draws, not new songs, which unlocks based on how well you play and based on events. Still, this is still a standard money sink, more so if you like cartoon idols, so players beware.
