Maiden Japan remembers Myself; Yourself, licenses

0

DVD and digital for North America

Anyone remembers Myself; Yourself? This 2007 title was memorable for me not only because of the semicolon-laden title, but also because it is surprisingly cogent for a bishoujo video game adaptation. Having the scenario writer of Ever17 behind the wheel might have something to do with the unconventional title and the way the characters weave an intriguing web of past relationships.

Myself; Yourself is one of those mixed media franchises that launched not only with a video game and anime in 2007, but also a similarly timed light novel series and manga series. It just happened during a time of change, as simulcasting was just in its early days and the so-called anime bubble popped right around then, leaving Myself; Yourself in the dust of time. In that sense it's good to finally see this little show being licensed. Like the protagonist in the anime, who moved back home to reunite with his old friends and flames five years later, seeing this title being licensed brings about some mixed feeling between nostalgia and how it's slightly out of date from today's picks.

Maiden Japan will release through Section 23 the DVD for Myself; Yourself for North America, although no time frame is specified at the moment. Hopefully it will be available over the internet via the usual means.
