Media Blasters rescues Fushigi Yuugi, rereleasing DVD set

Out of the blue, Media Blasters has announced via their Facebook page that they have acquired the license to Fushigi Yuugi, the 1995 series that ran for 52 episodes and spawned a few follow-up OVAs. The anime was previously published by the now-defunct Geneon (formerly Pioneer) and is currently out of print. Media Blasters hopes to fix that with a new box set for the first season, and they already have cover art to go along with it.

Media Blasters hasn't given many more details, other than a loose release schedule of "spring." Judging how these things go, I'd assume that they are keeping Geneon's translation and dub. One thing's for sure, though: it can't possibly be as expensive as the original release was. Fushigi Yuugi was DVD-only for a while, and the first season box set retailed for a whopping $200. My, how times have changed.

Are any older fans interested in picking this up?
