Morning Musume '14 is coming to NY in October '14

Coming Fall '14

Idols, while a huge part of the music and marketing culture in Japan, is incredibly niche overseas, making it hard for even the biggest acts to justify coming stateside for concerts. Morning Musume, despite it's deep history and becoming a household name in Japan, experienced a slump for nearly a decade until 'One Two Three' was released in 2012 with a new sound, selling over 100k in its first week, something that wasn't achieved since 2002's 'Koko ni Iruzee!'

So it was a pleasant, if not expected surprise when Morning Musume '14 revealed that they would be holding a concert performance in New York City on October 5th of this year. Their agency, Up Front Productions, always seemed to be a little hesitant with sending their idol groups to America, preferring France and other Asian countries in recent years. But with the newer Morning Musume '14, they seem confident enough to send their flagship group overseas once again.

Aptly named “Morning Musume '14 Live Concert in New York”, it will be held in the Best Buy Theater, scheduled for October 5th. Regular tickets are $42 USD, while there will also be a bundled pass that includes an autographed VIP pass and a CD for $100 USD.

Some of you may have gone to see Morning Musume when they had their first American concert at Anime Expo 2009. You'll be surprised to hear that the group has changed radically in the following years, including a big shift in musical style, aggressive marketing and rebranding. That's not the only change, as Morning Musume '14 only has ONE member, Sayumi Michishige (current leader), remaining in the group that actually performed in the '09 concert, the rest consisting of new members who joined the group since then.

The new faces include: Mizuki Fukumura (sub-leader), Erina Ikuta, Riho Sayashi, Kanon Suzuki, Haruna Ikubo, Ayumi Ishida, Masaki Sato, Haruka Kudo, and Sakura Oda. It will be all of their first times performing in America, as well as debuting as the new Morning Musume '14.
