Don't be a loser-tron
A month ago, I was having a conversation with someone about how Saban's tendency to attack mediums with Super Sentai references could come to an end if more tokusatsu titles (original or Americanized adaptations) aired on North American TV and/or major streaming platforms. Lo and behold, our wish came true as a toku parody show called Mystic Cosmic Patrol pops up on the comedy video Website Funny or Die.
The title is marketed as a series that makes fun of Super Sentai and space shows, so we can look forward to seeing some grown ups in spandex beating up evil. While the program's costumes aren't on a similar level to indie titles like Fujiyama Ichiban and Garage Hero's tokusatsu productions, its main thing is that it features actors and staff members who're involved with projects like Malcolm in the Middle, Nick's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, and Tales from the Crypt. That, and its humor might be its strength.
In the end, I could see myself having a blast with this show. Since they talked about having martial arts, let's hope that it's on par with the humor. Also, the team is holding a panel at the new tokusatsu convention called Japan World Heroes on Aug. 27 at noon. If anything, this sounds like a great way to start a new series.
