Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 takes it to the next-gen

0

Well, finally!

Japan isn't very well-known for the phenomenon of annualized franchises, at least not at the level of top-tier triple-A productions like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed. There are exceptions to that rule, of course, and one of them is Bandai Namco games and their impressive slate of licensed anime games. One of the most "triple-A" of those is Cyberconnect2's Ultimate Ninja Storm series, the Naruto-themed fighters that have released with regularity since midway through the PS3 era.

Now, after five full entries in the series (six if you count the Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst add-on as a separate release), Cyberconnect2 have learned to count to four. They've also committed to the next-gen systems, announcing Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Based on the available screenshots and character art, the next-gen's big Naruto game will be covering the rest of the Fourth Ninja War, showing off both Sasuke and Naruto's final forms, as well as set-piece battles between the reanimated Madara and Hashirama. Cyberconnect2 are promising graphics "beyond anime quality", and a 2015 release date.

I for one can't wait. The last Ultimate Ninja Storm game, Revolutions, felt a bit limp, and Cyberconnect2 seemed to be hitting a technical ceiling on their PS3/360-based graphics tech. And with new games like Guilty Gear Xrd and others challenging them for the "anime graphics" crown, the time seems right to up the stakes.
