Never Fear: Viz to give out free stuff at NYCC

0

Thank goodness someone will

New York Comic Con starts tomorrow, and that's...maybe not as it exciting as it could be? Back in the day, we had our very own New York Anime Fest. But then NYAF merged with NYCC; then NYAF disappeared entirely, but there was still plenty of anime stuff at NYCC; then NYCC decided to cut down on anime programming. I'm kind of ashamed of my home city right now.

Now, we can all cry about it over our dirty water hot dogs, or we can choose look on the bright side and see what's available for the con-going otaku this time around. Viz Media has decided to be a shining light in the darkness and not only has tons of anime panels, guests, and announcements scheduled, they will also give you free stuff if you stop by Booth 1944: you can walk away with a Naruto Shippuden or One Piece poster, a random exclusive Weekly Shonen Jump button and a special NYCC Tiger & Bunny collectible card pack. Apparently they plan to give out even more free items throughout the con including posters, bookmarks and manga samplers, so who knows what cool merch you might snag just for stopping by.

Fans can also sign up for an annual membership to the digital version of Weekly Shonen Jump for a special show rate of $19.99 per year and receive a special "Vulcan The Divine" Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card and a glow-in-the-dark button along with 48 digital issues of the magazine. Oh, and you can sample Neon Alley and score a complementary VIZ tote-bag and a 30-day free trial membership to the service. There's also going to be some kind of gaming contest where attendees can win prizes like T-shirts and such. Oh, and Viz will be streaming the dubbed premiere of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III- The Advent (Room 1A22). It's safe to say they've got some stuff going on.

Here's a press release from Viz that covers all their panel offerings for the weekend; now you can't say that there's no good anime content at NYCC anymore. Well, you could say it, but you would be wrong. Thanks for saving NYCC from nothing but The Avengers cosplayers, Viz.
