New episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai to premiere this Spring

English dub remains in question

Excellent news for Dragon Ball fans who may have felt short-changed following the decision to nix the Majin Buu saga from the recently-remastered Dragon Ball Z Kai. New episodes are finally scheduled to air this Spring. The 20th anniversary series was re-dubbed and remastered in high-definition back in 2009, but for whatever reason, the powers that be decided to omit the final arc of the original series. Plans to finish the series were unveiled back in November.

As with the original series, the remastered version had been licensed for localization and distribution by Funimation. Unfortunately, there's a bit of confusion regarding whether or not the new episodes are already scheduled to make their way stateside.

Although Sean Schemmel, the English voice actor for Goku, had claimed via twitter that he had been called in to record new episodes back in April of last year, leading many to speculate at the time that perhaps Funimation had decided to move forward once Japan had announced their intention to record new voice overs for the arc, Funimation never made any announcements confirming as much. Furthermore, in a recent statement to Dragon Ball fansite The Dao of Dragon Ball, fellow voice actor Christopher Sabat denied such claims and reaffirmed that stance even after being informed of Schemmel's tweet. Bizarre, I know, but if Funimation remains true to form, we can expect to see those episodes localized in due time.
