New Squid Girl OVA trilogy slated for September

No beach is safe

If you've been craving more Squid Girl, you won't have too long. A brand new, three-part original video animation will be released on Blu-ray disc September 9th in Japan --  a series first, as previous installments were a DVD-only affair. In addition, each Blu-ray will come packed with the 17th volume of Masahiro Anbe's on-going Squid Girl manga. Although Crunchyroll had reached an agreement to stream the previously-released animated series and original video animations, no announcements have been officially made regarding the upcoming episodes. Media Blasters apparently holds the license for North American distribution of the television series, despite not having published the second season.

The new episodes will be directed by Takayuki Inagaki, Makoto Moriwaki, and Gingitsune's Shin Misawa, so there's some real talent getting involved. I'm really expecting them to be good. I'm just not sure if Media Blasters will follow through with a domestic release. It's no secret that they've had their ups and downs in recent years. More likely, we'll just have to catch them when they inevitably air on Crunchyroll later this year. We'll have more on that if or when it's announced.
