New ThunderCats show is anime-tastic, airing on CN

Thunder, thunder, ThunderCats, HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I'm sorry. I couldn't help it.

For those of you who remember the classic ThunderCats series as fondly as I do, you'll be pleased to know that the show is getting a modern incarnation that actually doesn't appear to suck. The revival will be a collaboration between Warner Bros. and Japan's Studio 4ºC, the same studio behind The Animatrix, Halo Legends, and Gotham Knights. So yes, ThunderCats will essentially be an animoo. Even better. And what's more awesome is that the new series will be airing on Cartoon Network for all of us to see. Oh em gee, guys, does that mean that this could possibly be the beginning of Cartoon Network having a good anime line-up again??

While a promotional poster for the series initially implied a much darker direction for the new show, I'm pleased to say the new character designs haven't forgotten their 80s-inspired pastel roots. Of course, everyone's gotten a bit of the typical anime treatment and been made to look a bit more youthful, but I don't mind that a bit. In fact, the new ThunderCats is actually going to focus on Lion-O's rise to power within the group as its leader, and thus in some ways is set before the events of the original ThunderCats.

Costumes have also been redesigned, with slightly more emphasis on armor and way less spandex. But don't worry, Cheetara is still hot (in a furry sort of way), and every character retains their own iconic look in some manner. I just can't wait to see Snarf. The picture in the header is one of the first images from the new series. Are you excited to return to a revamped classic?
