NISA grabs Nagi no Asukara

Water still doesn't work like that

NIS America has just netted (oh ho!) this season's anime Nagi no Asukara, to be released under the title Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea. Now, the show lovingly referred to on Jtor AM as Snorks and That Show With No Underwater Physics can be yours for disc-based home viewing!

Seriously, while I wasn't that impressed with the show back at the start of the season, it's developed into something quite interesting. The fact that scenes that are supposed to take place under the sea don't feel like they're underwater at all is an annoyance, but if you can get past that, it's actually a very pretty show. Sure, the undersea town of Shioshishio may look like it was built for walking instead of swimming, but it sure looks like a lovely place to live-- well, if you can breathe underwater, that is.

Considering the fact that the show has actually been dealing with topical themes like climate change and Japan's declining birthrate, I'm not at all surprised NISA thought this was a title worth picking up; there's some soul behind all the pretty. Specific details about the release are still pending, but I think we can safely assume the adventures of Manaka and co. will be available on Blu-ray sometime in 2014. NISA always whips up some really nice packaging for their shows, and I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Darn it, after initially being dismissive of the show, I think I may actually end up buying this. If there's an artbook included, I hope it's printed on some of that completely waterproof paper they have down in Shioshishio-- it's the least they could do for my troubles.
