No more turn based combat in Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay Trailer

We've waited around for too long!

Last summer, E3, Final Fantasy VII: Remake was announced and every lost their collective minds. Then Cloud was announced for Smash as DLC and everyone lost their nuts. And now we have gameplay footage for the remake and it's not turn based! It's not even active time (sort of). I think everyone's mouths have dropped in shock if we're continuing the body part metaphor.

The trailer shows the now famous opening sequence of Final Fantasy VII where AVALANCHE being led by Baret are aiming to take out a Mako reactor with new recruit Cloud. It's surprising to see all the characters are now voiced and even more surprising that the trailer is already dubbed in English too. It shows off the town of Midgar and the initial skirmish between Shinra's SOLDIER unit and AVALANCHE. This remake has taken a leaf out of Kingdom Hearts' design page as the environments are free to explore while combat is limited to an area. Also, the fighting mechanics is more action orientated displaying a very similar UI to Kingdom Hearts too. In my mind, it looks like the same gameplay style as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Except unlike the other two games, the trailer shows that you can also control Barret implying character switching. I can't wait to see how Tifa plays. I'm hoping for an up and close, high-risk high-reward type fighter that relies on combos and luck of the spinner for limit breaks.
