Now you can get your Naruto anime fix on Steam

Jouki no Jutsu!

Rejoice, ninja fans, because Naruto has come to Steam! And no, I'm not referring to the bountiful slate of Ultimate Ninja Storm releases, but instead to a raftload of honest-to-goodness anime, courtesy of Viz Media. The company dropped ten feature-length films from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden just the other day, conveniently timed to coincide with the release of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.

The movies are available for rent and sale from $3.99, though there are caveats for interested otaku to bear in mind:

  1. Only the English-dubbed versions of the films are currently available.
  2. The offerings are region-locked to the North American Steam store. Heck, from where I'm sitting I couldn't even confirm the story without logging into my VPN to check.

And this last one is just me editorializing, but the films themselves aren't all that great either, especially if you're not all-in on Naruto fandom. With perhaps the exception of The Last: Naruto The Movie (which serves as an epilogue to the manga story), they're all designed to be non-canonical, featuring characters, plots and powers that show up for exactly the runtime of the movie and are never seen or heard from again. They look cool and are well-animated, but ultimately quite skippable, like an off-year Ultimate Ninja Storm game.

Whatever the case, though, Viz have hinted that future anime dumps may be in the cards beyond Naruto, so otaku of a gaming persuasion may have something to look forward to in then near future.
