NYAF '10: Bandai talks about Gundam, more Gundam, no duh

Bandai Entertainment loves its Gundam. Everyone knows this. Probably because Bandai in Japan produces every Gundam series and gives all the licensing rights to its North American counterpart, regardless of whether they ever want to release Gundam X DEAR GOD WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR. GET ON THAT.

So at their panel yesterday, Bandai was excited to announce that the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam would be rereleased on their Anime Legends line. The special thing about this rerelease is that they are finally including the Japanese dub, which was previously unavailable on DVD. I would complain about the English dub being really cheesy, but considering the age of the original Gundam, the Japanese dub is probably equally cheesy.

As for those of you without fancy Blu-ray players, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn will be coming to DVD, with two episodes per disc for a total of 3 releases. So yeah, way to consider the 90% of homes without glorious Blu-ray players.

Also, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: Awakening of the Trailblazer has been officially licensed by Bandai Entertainment, with its English premiere occurring at the con, an amazingly short time since the Japanese release.

Also also, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! That's coming to Blu-ray. Awesome. Go buy it.

And now, for those of you secretly scanning every anime-related post for news of K-ON!, let me toss some updates on the American localization towards you. DVDs and Blu-rays will see their release in Spring 2011 in four parts, with both regular and limited editions ranging from $29.98-$49.98. In addition, it was announced that Cassandra Lee will be playing Ritsu and Shelby Lindley will be voicing Mugi. Hopefully you're more excited about that than I am. Also, the songs in the series won't be dubbed. That's a shame. BECK would have been weird to hear the English voice actors transition into Japanese voices for all the songs.
