Puella Magi Nebula Madoka!

0

A petition for the ages

It's like seeing Jesus in a grilled cheese sandwich, but way cooler and way nerdier.

In true "Ask the White House to build a Death Star" fashion, worshipers of Puella Magi Madoka Magica are seeking to imprint their love on the stars themselves.

Some time ago astronomers discovered the nebula NGC 6357, located near another nebula, NGC 6334, part of the Scorpius constellation. 6357, given the boring name "War and Peace" (for a dove-shaped cloud beside a skull-shaped cloud), was notable for somehow forming some of the largest stars in the whole Milky Way galaxy, some approaching 100 times the size and mass of our own sun.

It so happens that for otaku, the nebula showed something much cooler and interest-relevant than a boring old dove and skull. It showed Madoka Kaname. Needless to say, this holy sign could not be ignored, and a petition to the International Astronomical Union was founded to rename the nebula to another, more Madoka-centric title. In the interest of avoiding spoilers, I've placed the proposed name and its context below the jump. Check the gallery for pictures of the actual nebula, as well as an artist's rendition of what the otaku saw.

For the record, I support this frivolous-but-amazing proposal wholeheartedly.

The Origin:

At the end of the show, Madoka makes her wish, and through it, achieves apotheosis, effectively becoming the patron deity of all magical girls who were ever born and have yet to be born, as well as breaking the cycle of tragedy that defined their existence.

Knowing this, the "Madokaists" proposed that NGC 6357 be renamed to the "Madokami Nebula", Madokami being a truncation of "Madoka" and "Kami", or "God".

There is only one Madoka, and Homura is her prophet.
