Quick Fund Event: Yu Suzuki's Shenmue III kickstarter already funded

0

I'm looking for some backers

E3 usually isn't the biggest thing to look forward to for fans of Japanese games, but there are always exceptions. This year is one of those exceptions, and Nintendo hasn't even begun its broadcast yet!

Everyone brought some thunder for the otaku gamer (including Microsoft and its Dark Souls III announcement) but Sony dropped the biggest hype bombs of the show so far. Those for The Last Guardian and no less than a goddamn Final Fantasy VII remake excited Japanophile hearts the world over.

All that got leaked, though, so one of the real surprises was the revelation that Shenmue III, the final part of Yu Suzuki's legendary Dreamcast open-world trilogy, was getting made...with your help. Yeah, that's right, a Kickstarter happened. Well, it hasn't even been a day, and the thing is fully funded for over $2 million. Damn thing got funded so fast it crashed Kickstarter's website. To think Koji Igarashi's attempt to make a Castlevania successor was a quick win not even a week ago.

To be fair, a lot of that amazing-looking slate of releases are still dated for next year, leaving the calendar a little bit spartan-looking if you're a PS4 owner who's not into Metal Gear, Destiny, or various western tentpole franchises. But hey, it's a reason to keep from stuffing it into the closet, I suppose!
