It's time for us to don our capes and cowls

I don't know about you, but it seems that Viz Media is in a super good mood this week. Aside from their unexpected acquisition of the 2011 Ultraman manga, the company has plans to release My Hero Academia, the latest manga by Barrage's Kohei Horikoshi. While the story's running digitally in Weekly Shonen Jump, this announcement is related to the manga's physical release in North America.

Despite my lack of experience with My Hero Academia, I find it interesting that it takes place in a world where many people are born with superpowers. If anything, my love for Tiger & Bunny and the '90s X-Men cartoon might've influenced this interest of mine. While super-powered humans are a normal thing in My Hero Academia's world, the story's main character, Izuki Midoriya lacks the abilities to become a superhero. However, thanks to a special opportunity, Izuki ends up inheriting the powers of All Might, who's kind of like the Superman of that world. Since Izuki now has his own powers, he gets the chance to attend a superhero high school, so that he can learn to become a true champion of justice.

Based on the manga's premise, Horikoshi's story might bring a special spin on the superhero genre. Seeing that most of my friends have said nothing but good things about My Hero Academia, I might check it out. In the meantime, I'll wait for them to announce the manga's official release date.
