Rejoice no Jutsu: Ninninger reveals its premise, cast, and staff

More ninja-related goodies are heading your way

The new year is around the corner, and TV Asahi's Ninninger page is ready for its next mission. This time around, the show's cast, production team, and premise leap out from the shadows to surprise its upcoming viewers. However, the most intriguing about Ninninger is that the show is celebrating Super Sentai's 40th anniversary. While the series is technically the 39th Sentai show in the franchise, Goranger ran for two years, which justifies the reasoning behind this special celebration. In other words, Gokaiger and most of the other anniversary Sentai installments celebrated the franchise's birthday a year late.

As for Ninninger's premise, the show revolves around the descendants of Yoshitaka Igasaki, who happens to be the Last Ninja. After Igasaki passed away, the Yokai that he sealed away three generations ago have been freed, and it is now up to the five main heroes to train in the ways of the ninja to defeat their ancestor's great enemy. Based the story's description alone, the plot shares a few similarities with Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, except that the Ninninger weren't tricked into freeing the Yokai from their prison.

From the looks of it, there's a good chance the team's main base'll be in a Ninjitsu Dojo that's owned by Tsumuji Igasaki, the son of the Last Ninja. Aside from the show's premise, the name of the five Ninninger's human identities have been revealed as well. These heroes are Takaharu Igasaki/Aka Ninger, Kato Cloud Yakumo/Ao Ninger, Nagi Matsuo/Ki Ninger, Fuka Igasaki/Shiro Ninger, and Kasumi Momochi/Momo Ninger. As for their personalities, Takaharu has a hotheaded personality, Kato is the calm member of the group, Nagi is the funny one, Fuka is Takaharu's little sister, and Kasumi is a skilled mechanic. Lastly, the Kato, Nagi, and Kasumi are Takaharu and Fuka's cousins, which might make Ninninger the third Sentai series to have a team that's related-- even if only two of the members are siblings.

Judging from the group's traits, Ninninger's main cast might be worth keeping up with when Feb. 15, 2015 reveals itself. In regards to the actors and staff, you can check them out in the section below, along with a new image the Shurikenjin and a bigger image of the show's actors.

Ninninger's Cast and Staff

  • Takaharu Igasaki/Aka Ninger: Shunsuke Nishikawa (GTO 2012 Season 2's Tsukasa)
  • Kato Cloud Yakumo/Ao Ninger: Gaku Matsumoto (Namonaki Doku's Kondo)
  • Nagi Matsuo/Ki Ninger: Kaito Nakamura
  • Fuka Igasaki/Shiro Ninger: Yuka Yano
  • Kasumi Momochi/Momo Ninger: Kasumi Yamaya (Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie War Ultimatum's Rumi, Space Sheriff Sharivan and Shaider: NEXT GENERATION's Hilda Gordon/Horror Girl)
  • Tsumuji Igasaki: Toshihiro Yashiba (Space Battleship Yamato 2010's Yasuo, Peak: The Rescuer's Yohei)
  • Yoshitaka Igasaki/Last Ninja: Takashi Sasano (Thermae Romae movie series' Shuzo, Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit's Chief Ishii)
  • Producer: Naomi Takebe (Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Megamax and Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters' Producer)
  • Director: Shojiro Nakazawa (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and Juken Sentai Gekiranger's Director)
  • Action Director: Hirofumi Fukuzawa (Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger's Aba Red's Suit Actor, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger's Gokai Red's Suit Actor)
  • Writer: Kento Shimoyama (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Episode 10 and Kikaider REBOOT's Writer)
  • Music: Kosuke Yamashita (Kamen Rider Gaim and Mahou Sentai Magiranger's Music)

Based on the announced staff so far, my excitement for Ninninger has reached new heights once again. While Nakazawa was the Main Director for two Sentai shows that I enjoyed, he also worked on Kamen Rider Wizard, so there's a small chance that Ninninger might end up as a decent show; however, I'm certain the rest of the show's production team will work together to ensure that we're in for a good time next year, since the program still looks promising. Also, if they have a crossover film with the Kakuranger and the Hurricanger, then we can look forward to the priceless moment where the Ninninger find out that Yoshitaka wasn't the Last Ninja after all.

To those of you who're into tokusatsu, what are your thoughts on Ninninger's cast, staff, and premise?
