Releases of the Week: Magi shows us a whole new world

A new fantastic point of view

It looks like we hit a slow week today as the batch is smaller than usual. Sure, we have 23 things coming out, but the other times provided us with a large amount of Japanese entertainment.

If you missed out on its earlier run, FUNimation gave Outlaw Star the "Classic" box set treatment, which makes it cheaper than its previous Blu-ray release. To this day, it's one of my favorite sci-fi anime shows and I loved how it blended space with Eastern elements. I mean, this show had magical space pirates, samurai, ships with arms, and a gun that shoots spells. Who knows, it might've been one of the inspirations for the series known as Firefly since they share a similar setting. If that isn't the case, then I guess it could be a coincidence.

Speaking of things that are similar, Magi Vol. 31 is out. While I never got to read or watch it, my love for Disney's Aladdin got me interested in it. Considering that it's loosely based on the original story from The One Thousand and One Nights, it sounds like it'll bring a different spin on the source material. From the looks of it, the manga may blend elements from the other classic tales, which may result in a good combo.

In terms of other adaptations, Planetarian hit North America and it comes with the ONA and the film so people can witness the original visual novel's major scenes animated. Since the source material went West, I'll have to play it one day. That way, I go through the various emotions people feel when they play Key's stuff.

Despite there being fewer items than usual, it looks like we got some good things, along with some re-releases of solid products.
