New York Times' top ten manga for 11/18/12

Manga!

Happy Monday, readers! Sailor Moon once again drove women buyers to the manga section this week, putting the series at the top of the charts, where it is bound to remain for a few weeks more. There's a clear domination by women in the manga market, so that explains why you frequently see other titles such as Pandora Hearts, Flowers of Evil, and Black Butler sitting in the top 10, along with the big three shonen series.

Let's take a look at the full list:

1. Sailor Moon Vol. 8 - Week 1
2. Negima Magister Negi Magi Vol. 36 - Week 1
3. The Infernal Devices, Clockwork Angel - Week 1
4. Black Butler Vol. 11 - Week 1
5. Durarara Vol. 4 - Week 1
6. Bleach Vol. 48 - Week 5
7. Bleach Vol. 36 - Week 9
8. Flowers of Evil Vol. 3 - Week 1
9. Pandora Hearts Vol. 12 - Week 1
10. Naruto Vol. 58 - Week 7

It's great to see Durarara's fanbase buy the manga in large enough numbers to put it on the charts -- perhaps that will spur someone to license the light novels. But that will likely only happen with a Kickstarter campaign, because of the high costs from translation and the uncertainty of committed buyers in the American light novel market.
