Releases of the Week: Timeranger ushers in a new era

Go over time and space

So I leave this segment for a week and a miracle happens when I return. It turns out that Mirai Sentai Timeranger arrived in our time period from the year 3000. Looking back, it's amazing that Shout! Factory managed to get this far with its Super Sentai releases. As for this piece's absence during last week, let's just say that we were going through an under-construction phase.

If you watched Power Rangers Time Force, I heard that the source material is similar. However, its differences involve how the team's story started, along with the fate of a certain character. Of course, this aspect pleases my appreciation for seeing two franchises tell a different story with the same suits, robots and monsters.

We also have FUNimation's release of Space Battleship Yamato 2199, which serves as a great example of how to remake a show while staying true to its roots. From my experience with its early episodes and my playthrough of Super Robot Wars V, it was a solid space opera that left me in tears.

Speaking of reimaginings of classic stuff, Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact Rocket Punches its way to Blu-Ray in North America. Sure, it came out on DVD in the past, but we can now see Yasuhiro Imagawa's (G-Gundam's Director) glorious homage to Go Nagai in HD.

Overall, I'm happy that we were blessed with a large wonderful offering of new things. Since most of these products came out during the final day of July, it looks like the month ended in a beautiful bang.
