Rest in Peace: Creature Artist Yasushi Nirasawa passes away

An amazing monster designer has left us

Sad news, everyone; it turns out that the great creature illustrator Yasushi Nirasawa passed away at the age of 52 on Feb. 2. According to his Twitter page, his passing was caused by kidney failure.

In case this is your first time hearing about the guy, Nirasawa designed some of Shin Megami Tensei IV's boss demons. Other than that, he drew the Undead from Kamen Rider Blade, the Horrors from Garo, the Worms from Kamen Rider Kabuto, the Imagin from Kamen Rider Den-O, Hells Angel's creatures and the Zangyack Empire from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.

If there was one thing that made his works stand out, it's that each of his creatures had features that gave them an inside-out look, which made them look cool and creepy. In some cases, their monstrous looks turned them into lovable characters, such as Momotaros and his crew from Den-O.

Rest in peace, Nirasawa, may you continue to impress the people of the other side with your great monster illustrations.
