Rock the charts: Japan's box office numbers 5/8 - 5/14

We're back, after a hiccup in Variety's listings. But now we're back with this week's charts, and it's good to see the Japanese cinema doing so well -- pulling in a whopping $16 million for the last week. I guess it's just not theatre time in the Land of the Rising Sun, eh?

1. Alice in Wonderland. 4th week, pulling in $5.7 million.
2.
Trick the Movie: Psychic Battle Royale. 1st week, pulling in $4 million.
3.
Nodame Cantabile the Movie II. 4th week, pulling in $1.64 million.
4.
Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in the Sky. 4th week, pulling in $1.45 million.
5.
Clash of the Titans. 3rd week, pulling in $941k.
6.
Gintama: Benizakura Arc - A New Retelling. 3rd week, pulling in $705k.
7.
Crayon Shin Chan 2010. 4th week, pulling in $575k.
8.
Shutter Island. 5th week, pulling in $415k.
9.
Miracle Girls: Neva-da Stop Dreamin'. 2nd week, pulling in $329k.
10.
The Box. 1st week, pulling in $309k.

One of the things I'm surprised by is that Iron Man 2 didn't debut in Japan. It had a ridiculously large international opening at the same time as the US market, and yet Japan -- the largest foreign box office -- didn't see a release alongside the others. I guess they want to let Alice in Wonderland run its course first?

We'll probably see next week.
