Scan yourself a girlfriend with the Barcode Kanojo app

Had enough of fun Japanese iPhone apps that appeal to otaku and are available in English?

Didn't think so, so here's a new one you can try out. It's called Barcode Kanojo, and as you might imagine, it involves barcodes and getting you lucky iPhone owners a kanojo (girlfriend).

All you have to do is download the app (available in English for free on the app store), and then point the iPhone's camera at any bar code - y'know, those funny black lines you can see on the backs of most product packages - and voila, a little onscreen kanojo for you. Every barcode yields a different girlfriend, as the program boasts a total of 7 trillion possible combinations.

Reportedly, barcodes from different regions can yield wildly varied results, i.e. comparing the results of an American barcode versus a Japanese one.

This thing strikes me as more Monster Rancher than Love Plus, but it's certainly worth giving a whirl. Are you going to try it?
