SDCC '14: Shout! Factory to release Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger on DVD

Earth's Legendary Warriors finally go west

Ladies and gentlemen. I would like to announce that hell has frozen over. Why you say? Well, it turns out that Shout! Factory has plans to bring Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger to North America.

As a person who's been wanting to own a Sentai series for a good while, it's great to see that more people in the west'll get to experience the 1992 tokusatsu series that helped give birth to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Not only that, this news is an huge moment in history, since this is the first time that a Super Sentai series gets an uncut DVD release in the west.

In case you aren't familiar with Zyuranger's premise, the show's about a group of Ancient Warriors who have awakened from their slumber to battle the evil witch Bandora after she was freed from prison. Unlike Mighty Morphin Power Ranger's Rita Repulsa, Bandora's evil schemes involved murdering children, so that she could wipe out the Earth's residents while they're lamenting over the kids who were killed.

While Zyuranger's tone was a slightly darker than its Americanized counterpart, the series still had comedic moments when our heroes weren't in a deadly situation. Thanks to this aspect, the show's viewers felt many different emotions as the Zyuranger faced many challenges during their mission to stop Bandora once and for all.

Come to think of it, Shout! Factory picked a perfect timing to announce their first Super Sentai license, since three actors from Zyuranger are attending Power Morphicon 2014. That being said, I have to give the group some huge props for taking their chances with this license. Hopefully, the series'll do good enough for Shout! Factory to release more Super Sentai shows in the future, since it would be nice to see more uncut tokusatsu shows available in the west.

Seeing that Shout! Factory's announcement is a joyous occasion, let's jam out to Zyuranger's opening in the section below.
