Send out a '39' for Miku in Persona 4: Dancing All Night

Virtual Dancing, Virtual Divas

No bones about it: Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a weird game. Sure, Atlus has a long history of milking the Shin Megami Tensei franchise like it was Audumbla, the live-giving cow of Norse myth, but making a dancing game out of it is still a relatively unusual step.

And so, as if to test just where the line is, they've gone and made things weirder, by adding none other than Hatsune Miku, Vocaloid idol icon, to the game as a playable character. Miku comes complete with a character design by Persona series art director Shigenori Soejima, and has a set of songs to play in-game.

I honestly wonder how they're going to justify her presence. Historically, Persona's spinoffs have all been heavy on storytelling, to the point that the individual character arcs in the Persona 4 Arena fighters were practically visual novels in terms of length. Will Miku get the same treatment? More importantly, now that she's here in this game, is there a chance she'll end up in some kind of future sequel to the dungeon-crawler mashup Persona Q?
