Soul Calibur: Unbreakable Soul drops on iOS today

Can't be worse than the recent Soul Calibur games

In strange gaming news, the Soul Calibur card game, called Unbreakable Soul, is out today for free on iOS devices. The game has series stalwarts Cassandra and the Edge Master looking for pieces of the Soul Edge. Through the course of playing, you'll unlock new weapons and avatars, i.e. the rest of the playable cast of the Soul Calibur series, to use in combat.

Speaking of combat, instead of crossing blades in direct combat, you'll be using a variety of cards to string together combos and attacks with different elemental-based weapons. Using good timing and the right combinations, you keep fighting until your enemy is laid out. While nothing was mentioned about how you would go about getting additional cards, I would bet a pretty penny that you can buy additional card packs through the app.

At first blush, I thought this was pretty awful. However, the trailer at least convinced me that this could be a moderately fun card game. My main problem is slapping the Soul Calibur name on the product. When you think of Soul Calibur, you think of a pretty fighting game with buxom ladies and beefy dudes swinging weapons at each other, not a free-to-play card game on mobile platforms.

Anybody out there planning on grabbing Unbreakable Soul?
