Studio Khara sues Gainax over unpaid royalties

The Lawsuit Instrumentality Project

As we continue to wait patiently for Eva 4.0's possible completion, a Studio Khara ends up going through a major turn of event. It turns out that they're suing Gainax for not fulfilling their deal to pay Khara royalty fees of the projects Hideaki Anno was involved in, such Gunbuster and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

Khara hopes to obtain the ¥100 million (around U.S. $881,096.00), the amount Gainax owes them, from this lawsuit.

Based on a private credit company's report, Gainax's last very successful title was Eva, and the company only made ¥240 million (around U.S. $2.1 million) at end of their fiscal period in July 2016, a tenth of their earnings from five years ago. To top it off, Gainax has a large amount of debts that rack up to a billion yen.

While Gainax brought us some cool stuff like Gurren Lagann in the past, my guess is that their state could also be connected to their lack of big hits after many of their best folks left to form Khara and Studio TRIGGER. Based on the situation at hand, it'll be interesting to see the aftermath of this whole thing. Something tells me that it won't be as bad as the Third Impact.
