Takeshi Koike to direct Lupin IIIrd: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone

New film will focus on the intrepid gunslinger.

Can I freak out, guys? I love Takeshi Koike works -- not just Redline, but his earlier stuff too, like Trava: Fist Planet. His style is killer and when combined with his insane dedication to smooth animation, it results in some stylish works. His character design and animation direction work on Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine made that series so much better than the writing would've typically allowed. That why I'm super excited that he's going to direct a brand new Lupin III film, releasing later this summer! It'll be titled Lupin IIIrd: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone, and is considered a "continuation spinoff" of the Fujiko Mine series.

The story will reportedly show the first time Lupin and Jigen meet, and how they eventually became partners. If you were looking for another reason to be excited: James Shimoji, the man behind the Redline soundtrack, will also be doing this. You now have the Redline OST playing in your head.

The movie will have a limited screening at Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9 early this summer. Hopefully a TV or home video release isn't far behind, because I want to see this now.
