The next Ace Combat game is Ace Combat Infinity

Lady, quit humming!

Rejoice, jet fighter fans! Turns out that the new Project Aces game Namco Bandai teased earlier this week is in fact an Ace Combat title. It's a downloadable game coming to the PlayStation 3 under the name of Ace Combat Infinity, which matches the trademark registered some time ago.

They've also released a teaser trailer. It looks to be set on Earth again, which is a point of concern, but the rest of it seems to strike just the right kind of mood for a proper Ace Combat game. There's a mysterious lady humming, cryptic statements from the JRPG school of melodrama, massive superweapons (something that looks like Stonehenge from Ace Combat 4), and an implied world crises that would seem impossible to solve with jet fighters alone (meteors!). Color me excited and hopeful for this one.

On a tangentially related note, the "other teaser" Namco Bandai opened up has finished its countdown, and is far less exciting than a new Ace Combat game. It's called J-Legend, a 3DS-bound collection of retro Famicom games based around various Jump characters, including Dragon Ball, Go Go Ackman, and some Saint Seiya titles.
