There should have been a fourth movie
If you didn't already know this about me, I'm a huge Berserk fan. I've even got Guts' brand tattooed on my left shoulder. If I could, I'd have my own behelit. Alas, the best I can hope for is getting to watch the third and final film of the Berserk trilogy, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III - The Advent, as it's now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Our very own Elliot reviewed the film upon its initial Japanese run back in February of last year, and while he dug it alright, I'm hoping the English dub treatment does it justice enough so that I can forgive some of the strange CG animation in favor of some Griffith weirdness. You guys know what I'm talkin' about, don't you?
Both DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film come packing special features such as a production art gallery, original Japanese TV spots, theatrical trailers, and the ending theme "breakthrough." Blu-ray buyers will also be treated to a highlight reel for U.S. theatrical audiences, likely hilarious outtakes from the first two movies, and special interviews and goodies. Basically, just go ahead and buy the Blu-ray edition for a better bang for your buck.
This is one of my favorite parts of the Berserk story, and I can't wait to get my hands on the film to finally complete my viewing of the trilogy. It's just a shame that we still, after all this fanfare, have nothing to complement the excellent manga beyond the animation we've already seen. We could have had it all, rollin' in the deep, but they played us. And I weep.
