Dondake!
So I finally watched Gintama, and it's now one of my favorite comedy anime shows. Part of it is thanks to its whacky cast, along with the series' tendency to surprise its viewers during each episode. On that note, I'd like to thank Japanator Writer Red Veron for recommending the show on various occasions.
As I'm working my way through the first series' fourth year, I find it neat that Tokyo's Omotesando Cafe & Space is opening a Gintama-themed cafe that's based on the show's "Host Club Arc." Best of all, it'll be known as the Takamagahara Host Club, which is the same name as the place in Kabukichu, one the anime and manga's main settings.
While there are a couple dishes based on a certain Gorilla, I doubt that it will awaken Otae's violent side. Of course, we have some desserts based on Gintoki, which goes well with his obsession with sweets. According to cafe's Website, there's a mayonnaise-themed (a.k.a. the best topping) item based on Hijikata, along with a spicy drink based on Okita. All in all, I love that the latter suits the guy's tendency to make others suffer. Perhaps the best one is the drink based on Shinpachi since it features his best trait.
The Gintama host club cafe will go on from Feb. 15 through March 16, which is good for anyone who's visiting Japan around that time. Aside from the meals, you'll get to buy posters, pins, business cards, bromides, and keychains of the characters in their host attire. As we wait for the place to open, you can check out some of the early dishes that were revealed.
