Trauma Team's bonuses highlight Japanese marketing style

0

Even in an environment as friendly to weird Nipponese games, a title like Trauma Team is something of an oddity to westerners. Few other releases provide quite the same kind of medical gameplay, despite their relative success.

As might be expected, marketing efforts for the game in the west have emphasized this uniqueness, frequently featuring the game's six different play modes. From run-of-the-mill surgery to diagnostics performed by a man who looks like Spike Spiegel crossed with Gregory House, Trauma Team is all about the unique gameplay.

But hey, not all marketing approaches work the same way everywhere else. Back home in Glorious Nippon, where the game is known as Hospital: 6 Doctors, people see weird gameplay like that all the damn time. So a different angle is needed, and whoever's in charge of Atlus over there knows what's up, if the game's swag is anything to go by.

Yes, it's all about Tomoe Tachibana, Resurgam First Care's ninja endoscopic surgeon, as shown by the saucy phone cards that come with all first-run shipments. While any example of Masayuki Doi's excellent character designs is welcome, I'm mildly disappointed that paramedic Maria Torres and forensics expert Naomi Kimishima didn't get more representation. Ah well, at least CR-S01's there to satisfy the ladies.
