Video captures Japan slipping through time, monkeys

File this under "everything old is new again" if you want. It's new to me and, I suspect, new to most of you.

Buried deep in a recent Boing Boing post featuring a simple but neat high-speed video effect was a mention of the maker's inspiration. That video (created last year) called "Heartbeats of Time" by Trey Ratcliff, was described as taking place in Japan and so, here we are.

While maybe a bit on the melodramatic side, "Heartbeats of Time" is nevertheless beautiful and mesmerizing. The action slips between super slow-mo to time lapse. Both techniques serve to show off things you might miss while traveling through a more natural time-stream. Also, it features onsen (hot-springs) monkeys and (almost) an up-skirt shot or two (though his intentions were innocent, I'm sure.) It has that "alone in a crowd" vibe, but also a lot of more sublime happiness. Take a time-out and check it below.
