Wait, what? Amazon's making a live-action Idolmaster show

Kinda missing the point, isn't it?

Are you ready for this? Are you LADY for this? Amazon certainly thinks so, because it's taking The [email protected], Bandai Namco's landmark idol-simulator/DLC factory, is coming to the one place it has never truly been: The real world. Indeed, the company known for delivering you things and pestering you about signing up for Prime is planning to give you an actual reason to sign up for Prime, and that's a live-action video series based on The [email protected].

Polygon reports that it's to be called The [email protected] (the ".kr" referring to Korea's internet domain address), and it'll tell the story of a gaggle of Korean, Japanese, and Thai girls "as they embark on a career in the entertainment industry, and depicts their sweat and tears, their hopes and dreams." It'll debut early next year, and be available globally in multiple languages, including English.

While I'm sure it'll be fine, and possibly even good, a live-action version of [email protected] is kind of missing the point, at least for me. After all, a key factor in my personal enjoyment of The [email protected] as a whole is the fact that as 2-D characters in an escapist fantasy game, the idols of 765 Productions are essentially free from the actual, very real issues that surround the idol industry, pop culture, and modern entertainment in general. At least with nonexistent idols, the only people being exploited are the poor fools buying the raftloads of DLC, y'know?
