Wait, what? Final Fantasy XV demo and Type-0 getting patched

Brave new world

Hearing the news that a console game is getting a patch shouldn't be the kind of thing that makes a man feel old, but for some reason the announcement that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and its accompanying Final Fantasy XV demo, Episode Duscae are getting the treatment does exactly that to me.

Maybe it's because Final Fantasy is still, in my head, the kind of franchise that emerges into the world fully formed, never to need a patch. Which, of course, is a load of BS. FF games were likely in as much need of patching as any other, the only difference being that back in the olden days console games simply couldn't be patched.

But now they can, which means Episode Duscae gets upgraded to version 2.0, adding a new super-tough optional boss and a handful of new side quests, gameplay interactions, and other content that puts a new spin on the meaning of "demo". The better news for me is the notification that Type-0 is getting its motion blur fixed up. I haven't been able to play the game because the blurring effect used to disguise the game's PSP origins was giving me headaches and eyestrain, something that a game hasn't done to me since I tried to play 1999's Requiem: Avenging Angel. Maybe now I'll actually be able to see what the fuss around Type-0's about.
