War on warez takes down pedophile, pleases Norton Fighter

The fellow you see in the header isn't a rejected Kamen Rider design, but "Norton Fighter", the public face of antivirus giant Symantec in Japan. And Norton Fighter is pleased, as an attempt by a would-be pirate to download a copy of Norton Antivirus resulted not only in failure, but the pirate's being outed as a pedophile by the vicious internet vigilantes of 2ch.

As might be imagined, the would-be pirate's computer was infiltrated by a particularly nasty strain of "Infostealer.Kenzero," which is Symantec's code name for the type of virus that was bundled with copies of the transvestite H-game Cross Days currently floating about the Japanese P2P network. In this case, the virus was included with a pirated copy of Norton Antivirus software. With his file information opened up for scrutiny, 2ch users found evidence pointing to the presence of dreaded CP.

Further investigation revealed the man's identity as a head official at a Nagasaki middle school. The story even blew into the mass media channels, and the man eventually apologized for "downloading the obscene images through Share."

The lesson to be learned from all this? Japan's P2P is a f'ing minefield.
