Weekend Japanatainment - US Fast Food in Japan Edition

0

Supersized Selection!

Here's another helping of Weekend Japanatainment! This time it's about US fast food in Japan and how something so familiar can be so different. If you've never been outside the US, American fast food places have spread across the globe and have adapted to local tastes by adding and changing things around.

Some places may have weird and wacky menu items while some remain authentic to the original flavor that Americans love to eat when they're lazy and want to hate themselves (which I do all the time).

So enjoy this week's selection and I am not responsible for any actions of being Hangry caused by this selection. Watch at your own risk!

What's your favorite fast food item? Have you ever tried any weird fast food items in the US or in another country? Do you have any weird fast food items? TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS BELOW! I wanna know!

Here's a Japan-based YouTuber that I have featured before, Sharla in Japan, and she's trying out the mini pancake Happy Meal in Japan. The pancakes don't look as bad as the ones they have here in the US that just makes me sick even with one just bite.

Here's a Japanese McDonald's animated commercial that aims to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside and it's about a part time job at a fast food place. Well animated and cute, not miserable like how fast food jobs are portrayed in the US.

Remember when I said there would be slight differences in the food? Here is an example of how there are slight changes to the food. Just watch and see.

Ever heard of how Japanese people eat KFC on Christmas? No? Well, here is AbroadinJapan and how he'll explain this weird tradition.

Watching people eat is a new internet thing (called "Mukbang") now and sounds absolutely boring. But this video has a pretty (and skinny) Japanese girl, Yuka Kinoshita, who eats 48 pieces of fried chicken from KFC. Even though I'm quick to point out that chickens outside the US aren't mutated to larger sizes leading to larger portions, forty-eight pieces of chicken is not an easy task even for a professional eater like her.

You were expecting wacky commercials? Here's one.

Here's Sharla in Japan again and now she's ordering some Pizza Hut.

Another wacky commercial featuring a weird mayo and shrimp pizza? Odd choice but mayonnaise in Japan actually has flavor (thanks MSG) that gives it an "umami" (or meaty) taste. Shrimp doesn't taste too different and usually doesn't taste like anything at all with all that cheese.

Taco Bell recently came back to Japan since their first failed outing back in the 90's. The menu seems largely the same with a couple of items that are exclusive to Japan. They also have french fries with taco and queso like Mexican Fries up in Canada. WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE THAT HERE?! Also this video is about the avocado and shrimp burrito, which you could probably order at a legit taco place that serves grilled shrimp.

Red likes a lot of things from Japan and wants to share more about it with the world. He even likes the bad anime. Sometimes. As long as it doesn't have big boobs. Maybe. more + disclosures
